Napoleon Bonaparte

Image
Napoleon Bonaparte Napoleon, otherwise known as his official military name Napoleon I, was a French military commander and political leader who rose in rank during the French Revolution and led successful movements during the Revolutionary Wars. Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769, and died on May 5th, 1821. He was the in-practice leader of the French Republic as First Consul (similar to a diplomat) from 1799 to 1804, then Emperor of France from 1804 until 1814 and again in 1815. Napoleon was born on an island that was previously annexed by France, which was called Corsica. He was born to a native family, and had minor Italian royalty in his blood. He supported the French Revolution in 1789 while serving in the French army, and tried to convince his home island that it was good.   His rank rose rapidly in the Army after he saved the governing French Directory by defending them against attacking royalist insurgents.  In 1796, he led a military campaign against the Aus...

Nunavut

Image
Nunavut Nunavut is the largest and Northernmost territory of Canada. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999, through the Nunavut Act , along with the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act, which provided this territory to the Inuit natives for independent government.  The boundaries had been drawn in 1993. The creation of Nunavut resulted in the first major change to Canada's political map in half a century since the province of Newfoundland was created on March 31, 1949. Nunavut takes up a large chunk of Northern Canada, and accounts for most of the islands within the Arctic Circle. Its huge area makes it the fifth-largest country subdivision internationally, and is also North America's second-largest after Greenland. The capital of Nunavut is called Iqaluit, which was formerly known as Frobisher Bay. It was chosen as capital by a capital plebiscite in 1995. One of the other major regions in the territory include Rankin Inlet and Cambridge ...

Babylon

Image
Babylon Babylon was the capital city of the ancient Babylonian Empire. The city, built along both banks of the Euphrates river, had steep embankments to contain the river's seasonal floods. The earliest known mention of Babylon as a small town appears on a clay tablet from the reign of Sargon of Akkad (2334–2279 BC) of the Akkadian Empire. The site of the ancient city lies 88 kilometers south of present-day Baghdad. The last known record of habitation of the town dates from the 10th century AD, when it was referred to as the "small village of Babel" . The town became part of a small independent city-state with the rise of the first Babylonian Empire, now known as the Old Babylonian Empire, in the 19th century BC. The Amorite king Hammurabi founded the short-lived Old Babylonian Empire in the 18th century BC. He built Babylon into a major city and declared himself its king. Southern Mesopotamia became known as Babylonia, and Babylon eclipsed Nippur (an ancient Sumerian c...

Black Holes

Image
Black holes, the only thing in the entire universe which defy reality. It has the most gravity than all the other heavenly bodies. Black holes have such a strong gravitational force that even light itself is sucked into the deep darkness. No one knows exactly how a black hole works. Whenever a body of matter or energy gets too close to it, it might get sucked in. The black hole has different parts, each significantly different from each other. First there is the quiet region, where there is no gravitational influence of the black hole. Then, there is the ergosphere, which is a large disc of flaming hot matter moving at speeds of light around the black hole. In this part, there is an effect called spaghettification, which occurs when intense gravity pulls a body apart and stretches it until it eventually rips apart. After being spaghettificated, the matter is sucked into the event horizon. It is the pitch black sphere of the black hole. After going inside the event horizon, escapi...

The Last Beekeeper Review

The Last Beekeeper   This book review, is about a novel I read a week ago called ‘The Last Beekeeper’ by Siya Turabi. It is a historical fiction, which in some ways, involves magic. This book is about a boy named Hassan who lives in a village in Pakistan. One day, he and his father went to a forest to get a type of special honey called black honey, which is used for healing curable aliments. However, people are no longer allowed to go to the forest where the beehives are because of a new law. He and his father illegally went there, but his father fell off of the tree while trying to get the black honey and got hurt. The beekeeper, who had never been seen before, rescued Hassan’s father. However, guards looked for his father, who went missing. Hassan got a scholarship and went to a town called Karachi. He tries to go back to find his father and the beekeeper, but an unexpected enemy challenges him. I find this book interesting because it has a story to tell. It doesn't tire you or ...

The life of a kid

The life of a kid is great. It can be awesome and marvelous. But it has its ups and downs. It can be depressing and ravenous, For joy and for fairness. Staying a kid is probably every adult’s dream. Having fun and eyes having a wonderful gleam. The life of a kid is the greatest.

Why Me

Why Me I was just walking along the old stream behind my grandfather’s cottage. I saw a tree. Only it wasn’t a normal tree, but where he died. I was just a normal kid with a normal family and a normal life. All that changed when the new kid named Elijah came to school with parents and uncle. We were in sixth grade, and me and my friends were asked to befriend the new kid. He fit perfectly in my group of friends, and turns out, he was really good at chemistry, a subject in which most of us sucked at. One Saturday, we went exploring in the woods behind his house. His uncle came along with us for supervision, although we were old enough to look after ourselves. It seemed weird when he shot up saying “I’ll go with you”, when we were going outside.  After exploring t...

White Night

White Night     It was a very dark and cold day on February 2018, when a big snowstorm hit Parsippany-Troy Hills in Morris County, New Jersey, which was where I lived.  The electricity had gone out because the power lines got knocked down and we were using all the flashlights and candles in our house. I was very scared, and it was almost time for dinner. My dad didn’t take the risk of going by car since it was under heavy snow, and the car would slip on the ice. So instead he walked to a nearby plaza. Lucky for us, there was a restaurant and a pharmacy that were still open. Just our luck, it was almost closing and they only had one dish left: vegetable biriyani. I can't tell you how much I hated it. My dad let me play video games on our tablet while I was eating so I can feel better. When I wasn't eating or playing video games, I helped my mom search for candles which had been put away for some time and also tried to take care of my little sister while she ...

Mike's Dream

The Aaron Mike's Dream Hi, my name is Mike, and I thought today was the worst day of my life. I overslept because I was watching movies all night. I was so worried about being late to school that I forgot to feed my dog and stepped on his tail. After being barked at for what seemed like hours, I ate my breakfast, got into my dad’s old car and went to school. When we reached my school, it was 9 o’clock and I was just one minute late to school. My dad had to check me in at the office and sent me to my class. I was late for the math test and did it poorly. During lunch, some older boys took my lunch money out of my hands and ran away. I was too frustrated that I picked a fight with them, later being sent to the principal’s office. When I reached home, I told my mom about what happened to school and she told me to never do this again calmly, but I knew she was furious inside. The next day was Saturday, and I went to play basketball with my friends. All of them had their...

Winter

A very nice time is winter, When we huddle 'round the warm cinders. We play in the soft, powdery snow, And drink hot chocolate with marshmallows. We throw snowballs and ride sleds. We sit and get heated by the fire, And eat food and feel gled. And even though the season's dangers are like splinters, We will enjoy all coming winters.

Las Vegas and Arizona

Image
This post is about me and my family’s trip to Las Vegas, and to lots of places in Arizona when we used to live in America. This trip was before the Covid-19 pandemic, only a few days after it was discovered in China.        We reached a hotel at almost midnight after 6 hours of travel. The first place we visited was Hoover dam. We went there on the afternoon of the second day. It is a very famous dam in America, probably the most famous, which I have heard of for a very long time. We walked on the dam and looked over the edge. It  was so big, and the water looked like the most soothing shade of blue. Me and my family spent a lot of time there and took lots of photos. That night we went to a fancy casino called Aria; we took lots of photos there too. Then we walked in the Las Vegas Strip and saw the fake Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower. Later, we went to Caesar’s palace. It was a massive casino that had many fancy shops, even a chocolate fou...
